The Gravel Pit

A young boy was at a gravel pit working with his father and another young man.  They had a team of horses and were attempting to pull a load up a steep road.  The young man driving the horses was loud and abusive.  In response, the animals were hyper and agitated.  They worked against each other and as a result, couldn't pull the load.  With a gentle voice and a gentler touch, the dad calmed the horses and walked them forward with the load.  When the horses cooperated, they could do much more than when they didn't work together.

The boy learned two important lessons from this experience:

1.  Gentleness is a better method of getting cooperation than harshness and:
2.  A team can accomplish much more when it works together than individuals can when they work      alone.

We must find the best way and be willing to not have our way.

  1. mistakes are part of the game and everyone will make a mistake at some point, but when someone does make a mistake we cant jump on them and yell at them for it. instead give them a few words of encouragment. for those that go to passing leauge you see how the big guy from kaukauna treats and yells at his teammates which is embarassing.

  2. Jared is right we all do make mistakes and there is nothing we can do about it. So we just have to keep working as a team and not give the blame to any one person. We all must take it and strive to keep them to as little number as possible during a game. This is why it is so important to show up to weight room, camps, fourth quarter Friday.

  3. It's been said a thousand times, but there is no "i" in team. We need to be able to work together cohesively as a unit. Part of that means we need to positively reinforce one another. There is no place on this team for constant yelling and belittling teammates. Sometimes it may be necessary to raise your voices, but any criticism needs to be positive in nature.

  4. When you make a mistake, you get pissed off, and yell at yourself which makes you lose your focus. If you make a mistake, it's no big deal cause its guaranteed to happen in a game so live with it. Instead of getting mad, causing you to lose your focus, take a breath, be calm, think about how you can improve from your mistake, and keep playing the game like as if nothing happened because thats the only way you can help yourself and team to move forward.

  5. When you make a mistake your not only pissed off but then the whole team is pissed. Making mistakes is LIFE!!!! When a quarterback throws an interception he thinks he blew the game but instead of thinking negative he needs to sit on the bench take deep breaths and count to ten and think about what can I do next time to not make that same mistake and clear your mind and move forward.

  7. mistakes are part of life, therefore you deal with them everyday, so every time one is made, you must find a way to learn from it. Teamwork is always the answer

  8. When we help a teammate out, we shouldn't scream and berate them but instead be calm and show them the correct way of doing it. I think we've been doing a lot better at this.
