Death

The first death you experience is actual death. It is your passing. It is what we all think about when someone dies.

Your second death is what occurs when you think that you died and no one would remember you. I wonder if this is why we all try to be known. Think about how important celebrity has become. We sing to get famous; expose our worst secrets to get famous; lose weight, eat bugs, attempt records, and even commit murders to get famous. Young people today post their deepest thoughts on public web sites. It's as if we are screaming ... Notice me! Remember me! Yet the notoriety barely lasts. Names quickly blur and in time are forgotten.

So, the question is how can you avoid the second death?

The answer is simple ... by being part of a family. It is through my family that I hope to live on for a few generations. When they remember me, I live on. All the experiences we have had, the laughs and the tears create the memories that forestall my second death. If I have done a good job then I will be remembered for one generation, maybe two ... but eventually they are going to say, "What was his name again?"

If you think about this it is absolutely correct. Can you name your great-grandmother? How about your great-great grandfather?

If we are a family we create a rope that connects each of us to one another. It allows us to build traditions that connect us and make us a family.

  1. You are right during the year we spend a lot of time together as a team. During the off season and of course during the season so with all the time we spend together we all are an extended family. Each day when we make weight room we become a closer family and only then can we succeed in are goal.

  2. Being a team, we need 11 guys to click on the football field at game time, but being a family, we need everybody to have a connection with each other. If we are a family, everybody will be ready when they get their call to step on the field. We also need to be a family off the field, we need to help each other make the right decisions.

  3. To live on you need to do something great, share memories, or be in someones life, even though you physically are not. This is why we must help each other, as well as the community. Even something like the JDRF walk could help us avoid second death. Being there for out city, and our nation is a reason to be remembered.

  4. First, I think you should reflect on what you've done in life before you let others judge you. If you are happy with how you've lived your life and the things you've done, then you have already won half the battle. Like the post says, the other half can be won by being part of a family, whether it be your flesh and blood family, a group of very close friends, a team, or all of the above. If you donate some of your time to make the lives of your families better, then you will surely avoid second death. There are certainly many ways to do this, whether it be spending time in the weight room, hanging out with friends, or eating dinner with your parents once in a while.

  5. Only as a team can we achieve greatness. Everybody strives to be great as individuals. However individuals are soon forgotten. As a TEAM we can be remembered. The moments we share in our journey to greatness will never be forgotten. If WE can come together as a TEAM, we can be remembered for something great. To help the team be great we also have to put in the work as individuals. If all of the individuals on this TEAM are working towards the goal together, we can achieve our goals.

  7. As a team we become a family, we will remember the good times and the bad. If someone is a good individual athlete they will be remembered for maybe one or two generations, but then will be forgotten. As a team we will be remembered for much longer, possibly forever, and not as an individual, but as a whole.

  8. If you are willing to achieve something great and be remembered you need a family to do it. Those who choose to do it by them selves, don't last forever. When team achieves something, they are remembered for much longer.People will remember 40 rather than 1. But to achieve this you need support from your teammates, and they need it from you. We need to come together as a family. If we do that we will avoid second death.

  9. Nobody lives forever and just like nobody lives forever that mean nobody is remembered forever. the key word there is noBODY. We as a team and as a family can be remembered for something great. But thats only if we make our family worth knowing.
"May you never forget what is worth remembering, nor ever remember what is best forgotten" - unknown
If we unite as a family we can avoid being "Best Forgotten."

  10. The rope needs to be tight if we want to make it through this season. We all have high hopes but we have to stick together as a family. We win together and we loose together.

  11. like tony said, the rope needs to be tight but the whole team needs to be holding onto it. give help where it is needed and dont let go.

  12. The football team is our second family. We need to stick together and play hard. As a team we can acomplish anything. The individual who is worried about his own preformance isn't playing for the team. The individual who is worried about being remembered is always forgotten. As a team we win and lose together. Everything we achieve we achieve together. As a team we create a legacy. That legacy lives on forever.

  13. People in the family not only expirence the outcome, but all the work. They know what you have done if it wasnt a big part in the end result. They know that what you did was important to them and it matters.
